As the leaves fall, festivals, house shows and concerts continue on The Setlist this week.
Starting off where we left off last week: Wussow’s One Week is going on now through Sunday in West Duluth with live music every night of the week. On Wednesday, there’s a singer-songwriter contest, then three bands every night following.
Thursday night has old-time, classic rock and country, with Sidestreet Detour, Squid City Slingers and Monkey's Uncle. Friday leans punk and hard rock with The Leave Alones, Draco Volan and Unattractive Giant Monster. Saturday has jam, prog and jazz rock with King Sized Coffin, Mahon Brothers and Entheos Enclave.
Charlotte and the Charlatans will wrap up the festival with a jazz brunch Sunday at 11 a.m.
Back to Friday, Superior Siren and McKeon Hugh Roberts are playing a house show at 6 p.m. in Grand Rapids. The popular chamber-folk group is now a five-piece with the addition of Duluth Symphony Orchestra Director Erin Aldredge on violin. Their acoustic sound will be a great fit for an intimate house show. Roberts will be opening with a solo ambient set, and you can email him at mckeonhugh@gmail.com for the address.
Junkyard Mule is playing two shows this weekend: Friday night in Bemidji and Saturday night in Grand Rapids. They are an old-time, country and folk trio of Clancy Ward, Nate Hynum and Jen Krussow, who released their debut album this March. In Bemidji, they are playing Brigid's Irish Pub at 7 p.m. and the following night Rapids Brewing Co. at 6 p.m.
There is live music both Saturday and Sunday at the Carter Farm Festival near Park Rapids with The Oxbows, Carter Junction and Hoot Owls. Music begins Saturday at 11:30 a.m., with both the Oxbows and Carter Junction playing two sets of folk, country and bluegrass. On Sunday, music begins at 1 p.m.; this time the Hoot Owls and Carter Junction, again playing two sets each.
Finally, three bands are playing the Ripple Center’s Underground stage in Aitkin on Saturday at 6 p.m. Old-time and folk singer Kelley Smith just announced her debut album with the single "Come Down Oh Maid,” chamber-folk duo Everybird, which features local concert promoter Christian McShane and Holly Shaw, and another duo in LaPlant Road, who recently put out a new album called Finding Home, playing bluegrass, folk and old time.
