Congratulations! You made it through the heat and your reward is six concerts in five cities on The Setlist this week. Treat yourself to some tasty tunes.
On Thursday, vocalist Aida Shahghasemi is playing a living room concert at Room 203 in Old Central School of Grand Rapids. Shahghasemi, whose music is inspired by her Persian heritage, has collaborated with artists like Glen Hansard and The Swell Season, and will be joined in Grand Rapids on Thursday by Max and Jeremy Ylvisaker. 6 p.m.
Muskie Days is Friday and Saturday in Nevis with a great lineup of Minnesota artists. On Friday, five artists will take the stage beginning with Leech Lake folk singer Annie Humphrey at 4:30 p.m., and wrapping up with jam-funk band Saltydog at 11 p.m. On Saturday music begins at noon, and throughout the day you can catch Charlie Parr, Corey Medina & Brothers, Kitchi Boogie, Pink Marlena and more.
Back to Friday, Amanda Standalone is playing the Cana Wine Bar in Crosby at 7 p.m. She is a folk and blues singer, guitarist and banjo player with three albums, most recently You’re Still Here, from 2022.
Three artists are playing Klockow Brewing in Grand Rapids this Saturday beginning at 3 p.m., as part of a fundraiser for the Free Range Co-op. Folk singer and multi-instrumentalist Emily LaPlant (LaPlant Road), longtime bluesman PK Mayo and Ethio-jazz and global funk band, Tattletale.
The fifth annual Nature Rocks benefit concert is also Saturday at the Aitkin County Fairgrounds with two of Minnesota’s best known alt-country bands. The Jayhawks, led by Gary Louris, just put out a new single called "Keeping Our Heads Above Water," and are headlining with opener Martin Zellar and The Hardways. The concert raises funds for children to attend camps at the Long Lake Conservation Center. Doors open at 5 p.m.
There’s a punk mutual aid show at Rail River Folk School in Bemidji on Saturday night called A Night of Noise and Neighbors, beginning 6 p.m. Headliners Menstrual Tramps, from the Twin Cities, will be joined by local Bemidji groups Noxious Ghoul, ¡Radicalfuntime!, rotten sardines and Warpath. This show was organized by KAXE volunteer DJ Gina the Knife!
