KAXE's weekly list of concerts near you features The Cactus Blossoms and Boxcar, Ditty Wish Band, Caleigh, Scott Jasmin, The Brothers Burn Mountain and MorningBird.

We're covering some ground on The Setlist this week. Spotlighted shows are to the west in Fosston, the east in Duluth, the south in Crosby, plus Grand Rapids and Coleraine.

The Cactus Blossoms are playing Downtown Duluth Days this Thursday. Led by brothers Jack Torrey and Page Burkum, the band has won fans for their retro country and rock 'n' roll sound since forming in the early 2010s. Opening for them is Duluth classic country band, Boxcar. Music begins at 5 p.m.

In Grand Rapids, The Ditty Wish Band is playing Rapids Brewing, Thursday at 6 p.m. The often solo performer has recently added keys and drums to her live sound and also released her debut EP Songs About Home.

Folk trio Caleigh are playing in Fosston, also Thursday at 7 p.m. They fuse folk, Celtic, bluegrass and old-time music. The show is at the East Polk Heritage Center.

On Friday, singer-songwriter Scott Jasmin is playing in Crosby at the Cana Wine Bar. He describes his music as honest and soulful "Midwest Americana." Music is at 7 p.m.

Mt. Itasca in Coleraine is hosting the second edition of Music on the Mt. this Saturday with The Brothers Burn Mountain and MorningBird. They recommend bringing your own lawn chairs. Gates open at 5 p.m., and music starts at 6 p.m. The Brothers Burn are an eclectic blue-jam duo, and MorningBird is a newly four-piece folk-rock group.

Events this week include an allyship presentation in Grand Rapids, "Willy Wonka" in Pequot Lakes and a bike park grand opening and fundraiser in Brainerd.

Malachy started his radio career in 2017 at a college radio station, where he played weird music in the middle of the night to possibly no one. On a good night maybe his parents were listening. Nonetheless, he was hooked on public radio and is still doing it today.

He joined Northern Community Radio in 2022, where he gets to share his passion for local music as Producer of Minnesota Mixtape, an all Minnesota music show airing Fridays at 10 a.m. and Saturdays at 3 p.m. You can also find him hosting Headwaters and curating The Setlist.
