Concerts taking place Dec. 5-7, 2024 in Northern Minnesota.

KAXE's weekly list of concerts near you features Skarlett Woods, Mason Jennings, Grant Edwards and Sam & Matthew Miltich.

The Setlist returns after a holiday break with four shows around the area. Get out there and support our local music scene!

Folk musician Skarlett Woods is playing the Turtle River Chophouse in Turtle River this Thursday at 6 p.m. She brings a jazz background to her personal lyrics and story songs, specializing in seven-string jazz guitar. In 2023, she released her latest album, Letters to the West.

Skarlett Woods' performance and interview on New Music, Aug. 24, 2023.

Minnesota- and KAXE-favorite Mason Jennings is playing Sacred Heart Music Center in Duluth, on Friday at 7:30 p.m. The indie-folk musician has released 16 albums since 1997. Opening for Jennings is local duo Between Howls.

On Saturday, Grant Edwards will be at Rapids Brewing in Grand Rapids at 6 p.m. He is a solo singer and guitarist who mixes Americana, folk and blues.

Also at 6 p.m., Sam & Matthew Miltich will be at Brigid's in Bemidji. The father and son jazz duo play hot club, straight-ahead jazz and folk music inspired by their Balkan heritage.

Events this week include Christmas tea in Aitkin, a historical holiday museum in Hibbing, an open mic in Bemidji, and strings and symphony concerts in Grand Rapids and Brainerd.

The weekly live music spotlight is made possible by the citizens of Minnesota through the Arts & Cultural Heritage Fund.

Malachy started his radio career in 2017 at a college radio station, where he played weird music in the middle of the night to possibly no one. On a good night maybe his parents were listening. Nonetheless, he was hooked on public radio and is still doing it today.

He joined Northern Community Radio in 2022, where he gets to share his passion for local music as Producer of Minnesota Mixtape, an all Minnesota music show airing Fridays at 10 a.m. and Saturdays at 3 p.m. You can also find him hosting Headwaters and curating The Setlist.
