TWIG — The Minnesota Department of Natural Resources is accepting public comments on a proposed all-terrain vehicle project in Carlton and St. Louis counties.
The Twig Area Trail Riders ATV Club proposed the project, which would include 510 miles of trail. The route would consist of roadway and natural surface trails, combining existing trails with newly constructed trail segments.
According to the DNR's Tuesday, Sept. 1, news release, the project aims to connect communities in Carlton and St. Louis counties to the trail system. Motorized all-terrain vehicles and off-highway motorcycles could use the new trail in spring, summer and fall.
The project’s Environmental Assessment Worksheet, or EAW, outlines possible environmental impacts such as the anticipated carbon footprint of the construction, potential disturbances for wildlife and noise disruptions for nearby landowners.
The public can comment on the EAW using DNR’s website or by mail until Oct. 1.
