Officers from the Hibbing Police Department responded to a report of a woman threatening to set herself on fire.

HIBBING — A Hibbing woman died from her injuries after apparently lighting herself on fire Thursday, April 9.

In a Friday news release, the Hibbing Police Department stated officers were dispatched to a residence on Mesabi Drive after learning a woman was threatening to light herself on fire.

She was located inside a burning garage, where officers were able to quickly extinguish the blaze and provide medical attention. The woman was transported to Fairview Range Medical Center and ultimately airlifted to the Hennepin County Medical Center, where she was pronounced dead.

Authorities said the evidence suggests this was a self-inflicted act. The woman’s identity was not released.

The Hibbing Fire Department and Hibbing Ambulance Service assisted at the scene.
