BAUDETTE — A stranded angler was rescued Thursday, Dec. 4, off Lake of the Woods.
The Lake of the Woods Sheriff’s Office stated in a news release that the Winsted man reported he was surrounded by 400 feet of open water while standing on thin ice with his portable fish house around 1 p.m.
With the use of an airboat, deputies and rescue personnel rescued the man at Fred's Beds Access, a fishing resort near Graceton Beach. No injuries were reported.
Four inches of clear, new ice is the recommended minimum for walking out onto the ice, and anglers and other outdoor enthusiasts are encouraged to exercise extreme caution with early season ice.
