A state task force is looking for input from people who gather mushrooms, berries or other plants on state land.
The Minnesota Sustainable Foraging Task Force was created by the Legislature earlier this year.
The group is tasked with developing foraging guidelines for state lands that balance public access with conservation needs, and is slated to end its work early in 2026.
The task force is hosting three online public input sessions: 8:30-10 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 19; 3-4:30 p.m. Thursday; and 11:30 a.m.-1 p.m. Dec. 3.
They want to know what you forage, how you do it, concerns about effects on other recreational experiences and areas of confusion around the current rules.
"If you forage, are passionate about management of outdoor recreation on state lands, or are interested in being a part of the conversation, please consider joining one of the following public input sessions," stated a legislative update from the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources.
The DNR website hosts information on the current rules regarding foraging when visiting state parks, state recreation areas and state forests.
