GILBERT — The Cherry Fire Department is mourning one of their own after a fatal all-terrain vehicle crash near Gilbert.
The Gilbert Police Department responded to the Iron Range Off-Highway Vehicle State Recreation Area around 10 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 16, to a report of a serious crash.
Responders determined the crash occurred sometime the evening before, as the pair weren't discovered by other ATVers until the next morning.
Tia Muller, 26, of Chisholm, was a passenger on the ATV and was pinned underneath the ATV. She was pronounced dead at the scene. Johnathan Muller, 25, also of Chisholm, was the driver. He was airlifted to Duluth for treatment of serious injuries.
Tia Muller was a member of the volunteer Cherry Fire Department. The department said in its Facebook post that she will be truly missed.
"Our hearts as a department are hurting," the post stated.
