Northern MN swim and dive results: 3 state medals, 4 consolation final wins

Detroit Lakes' Blake Swenson took home two medals, and Hibbing's Wylie Stenson is the region's other medalist at the 2025 state swim and dive meet.

MINNEAPOLIS — Two rural Northern Minnesota student-athletes medaled at the 2025 boys swim and dive state championships at the University of Minnesota on Saturday, March 8.

Perham senior Blake Swenson, who swims for Detroit Lakes, was the top finisher of the over 50 athletes from the region who qualified. Swenson took home the bronze in the 100-yard backstroke and finished fourth in the 50-yard freestyle.

Hibbing junior Wylie Stenson also medaled, finishing seventh in the 100-yard freestyle.

Stenson also won the 100-yard backstroke consolation final, taking ninth overall.

Grand Rapids sophomore Zak Vidmar is also a consolation champ, taking ninth in the 100-yard breaststroke.

Vidmar was also part of the two Grand Rapids relays that won consolation finals: the 200-yard freestyle relay (Vidmar, Fynn Schlicht, Matt Phillips and Kasey Cowan) and the 200-yard medley relay (Frankie Block, Vidmar, Jake Brunn and Cowan).
