BIWABIK — The Cook County Boys Alpine Ski Team was the only rural Northern Minnesota school to place at the State High School League’s state championships Tuesday, Feb. 11, at Giant's Ridge in Biwabik.
The team placed second of eight teams with 149 points.
Junior Goshi Dimitrov led the team with a combined two-run time of 1:15.70, also earning him the fifth-place medal in the individual competition.
Also competing for Cook County were Graham Oberholtzer (15th), Finnley Taylor (30th), Hans Mehlhaff (32nd), Knut Remmem (61st) and Rylan Brown (73rd).
Five other Northland athletes advanced to the state championship.
On the girls' side, Brainerd's Piper Grillo finished 18th, and Cloquet-Esko-Carlton's Teagen and Nadia Tessier finished 23rd and 33rd, respectively.
For the boys, Detroit Lakes' Tristan Bristlin finished just outside of the top 10 at 13th, and Proctor-Hermantown's Toby Schunk finished 39th.
