Hwy 169 in central Grand Rapids to be detoured next week

The railroad crossing on Highway 169/Pokegama Avenue between NE Third and Fourth streets will be replaced the week of Sept. 23, 2024.

A railroad crossing replacement will detour the busy thoroughfare likely until the weekend.

GRAND RAPIDS — Highway 169 in Grand Rapids will be detoured next week for a railroad crossing replacement.

Burlington Northern Santa Fe Railroad is replacing the crossing between NE Third Street and NE Fourth Street. The Minnesota Department of Transportation will then pave the approaches.

MnDOT said Highway 169 will be detoured along NW Second Street, NE First Avenue and NW First Avenue.

Center parking on NW First Avenue between NW Second Street and NW Third Street will not be allowed during the detour, though angle parking along the curb will remain in place.

The railroad crossing replacement and pavement work is planned to be completed by the weekend.
