The Cass, Crow Wing and St. Louis county sheriff's offices have all asked boaters to be cautious to help prevent shoreline damage with waters high after heavy rainfall.

NORTHERN MN — Three Northern Minnesota county sheriff's offices remind boaters to operate with extra care on lakes and rivers with higher-than-normal water levels caused by recent storms.

The Crow Wing, Cass and St. Louis county sheriff’s offices have all shared similar messages, requesting slow or no wake, especially near the shore. Currently, the Department of Natural Resources recommends a slow no-wake zone of at least 200 feet, according to the Crow Wing County Sheriff’s Office

The high water poses increased risks to shorelines, docks and boat lifts.

“Many shoreline property owners and businesses are experiencing damages to their properties due to flooding and erosion,” the St. Louis County Sheriff’s Office release stated.

The offices ask boaters to exercise restraint, good judgment, common sense and courtesy, especially on high-water lakes.
