BRAINERD — A recent death at the Crow Wing County Jail continues to be under investigation by the state, the Crow Wing County Sheriff’s Office said.
Crow Wing County Jail staff discovered the unresponsive man around 9 p.m. on Feb. 22. The man was booked earlier in the evening for allegedly driving under the influence. Corrections officers and medical staff attempted lifesaving measures but were not successful. A Wednesday release identified the victim as 57-year-old Robert Slaybaugh.
Slaybaugh, according to his obituary, was a camp director for Confidence Learning Center, which provides outdoor experiences for people of all ages and abilities. Slaybaugh was also active in the Brainerd Lakes community, noted as a founder of the Brainerd Jaycees Ice Fishing Extravaganza.
The state Bureau of Criminal Apprehension and the Department of Corrections are both investigating the incident.
