LAPORTE — A 13-year-old girl from rural Laporte is receiving accolades for her swift action in helping her mother during a medical emergency in a moving vehicle.
The Hubbard County Sheriff’s Office presented an award recognizing the girl’s bravery for the night in late September when she called 911 on Highway 200 near Kabekona.
According to the sheriff’s office, the girl took instructions from a dispatcher on how to slow down the vehicle on her own because her mother was not responding.
The girl took the wheel and steered the vehicle until it came to a stop.
Medical personnel were then able to treat 54-year-old Barbara Foss, who was later transported to the hospital.
