NORTHOME — A “Meet the Candidates” forum will be 6 p.m. Wednesday, July 19, for those running in the Koochiching County Commissioner District 5 primary election.
The forum will be at Northome City Hall and is open to the public. The four candidates are Dale E. Erickson from Birchdale, Rich Mastin from Big Falls, Dale Promersberger from Big Falls and Erika Stoltzman from Margie.
A special election became necessary upon the death of Koochiching County District 5 Commissioner Wayne Skoe in February, according to a news release. Four candidates filed for the position and are on the ballot for the special primary election concluding Tuesday, August 8. The two candidates who receive the most votes in the primary move on to the general election on Nov. 7.
Koochiching County District 5 is by far the geographically largest district in the county and includes a portion of the city of International Falls and the communities of Big Falls, Birchdale, Loman, Mizpah and Northome.
The forum will provide equal time for each candidate to give an introduction, as well as equal time to respond to prepared questions relevant to the concerns of Koochiching County District 5 residents.
The date for a second forum later this fall in preparation of the general election in November has not yet been set.
