GRAND RAPIDS — Boys & Girls Clubs of the Northland announced the hire of Britta Arendt as development director for Boys & Girls Clubs of Grand Rapids and Greenway.

Arendt will work with the Grand Rapids and Greenway clubs as part of the Boys & Girls Clubs of the Northland’s network of six branches.

The Boys & Girls Clubs of the Northland has experienced significant growth in the past five years, according to a news release. The organization has expanded from three branches to a regional network of six clubs in three counties. The clubs are now reaching more youths than ever before with two branches in Duluth, one in Grand Rapids, one in Coleraine, one in Hibbing and one in Superior, Wisconsin.

This hire is part of a restructuring for the Grand Rapids and Greenway clubs, the organization reported. Arendt follows Lori Kangas-Olson, who was instrumental in establishing the local clubs and worked as area director. Arendt will be responsible for providing direction in cultivation and solicitation of major gifts and grant support from individuals, corporations, foundations and organizations.

Arendt will office out of the Grand Rapids/Greenway administration office located in Coleraine.

A native of Grand Rapids, Arendt comes to the Boys & Girls Clubs after years as editor for the Grand Rapids Herald-Review. She is a graduate of the Blandin Foundation’s Community Leadership Program as well as the Editors & Publishers Community Leadership Program. She has also served on various boards within the Grand Rapids community and is an active member of St. Joseph’s Parish.

“For more than 50 years, the Boys & Girls Clubs of the Northland has helped countless youth find a safe, positive place to engage in a variety of high-impact programs and activities,” the release stated. “The mission of Boys & Girls Clubs has never changed, even in times of crisis: to empower and inspire all young people, especially those who need us most, to reach their full potential as caring, productive, responsible citizens.”
