St. Louis County installed a new bridge crossing the Whiteface River near Meadowlands on St. Louis County Highway 133.

MEADOWLANDS — Construction of a new bridge crossing the Whiteface River near Meadowlands is complete and St. Louis County Highway 133 is now open again.

The previous bridge was nearly 60 years old and had a poor rating. Replacing it now prevented the need for load restrictions on this highly traveled road, according to a county news release.

Additional finishing details are still in progress while the road is open. Motorists are reminded to slow down and use caution while traveling through or near the work zone, the release stated.

Reconstruction of the bridge is part of a $24.9 million bridge bundle contract to replace a total of 21 deteriorating bridges and box culverts. Funding comes in part from a $10.3 million federal grant awarded to the county in August 2019.

Redstone Construction was the contractor for this project. To learn more about this or any other St. Louis County road construction project, or to sign up for email updates, visit stlouiscountymn.gov/roadconstruction.
