The state park is celebrating its 100th birthday with cake and ice cream as well as live music. Enjoy a history presentation earlier on the fight to establish the park.

BEMIDJI — Help clean up Bemidji State Park Saturday, April 22, in honor of Earth Day, and stick around to celebrate the park’s 100th birthday.

Saturday’s events also include a history presentation covering the fight for Lake Bemidji State Park.

The day kicks off with the cleanup 10 a.m.-noon. Wear work clothes and meet in the visitor center.

From 1-2 p.m., “Voices from the Past: The Fight for Lake Bemidji State Park will take place in the visitor center. The first mention of a public park in the Rocky Point area occurred more than 120 years ago, according to a news release. The history of the advocacy efforts surrounding the park at the head of Lake Bemidji is told through the voices from historical newspapers.

The birthday celebration is 2-4 p.m. Partygoers may have cake and ice cream while listening to live music in the visitor center.
