BEMIDJI — Bemidji residents opted for incumbents to continue serving on the Bemidji City Council in Tuesday's election.
Josh Peterson was successful in his bid to continue serving as the city's Ward 2 representative. He has been on the Council since 2022. He was challenged by Kate Egelhof, a former librarian and current legal assistant.
Emelie Rivera succeeded in her election bid for a third term as the Ward 4 representative. Newcomer Misty Bray, a longtime resident and advocate for the Bemidji area, challenged Rivera. Rivera's been on the council since 2018.
Audrey Thayer triumphed in her bid for a second term as Bemidji's at-large council representative. Former Ward 3 representative Ron Johnson challenged Thayer but was not successful.
Thayer, of the White Earth Nation, was the first-ever Native woman elected to the Bemidji City Council as the Ward 1 representative in 2020. She first ran for the at-large seat in 2022. Johnson was the Ward 3 rep for 20 years before redistricting moved his residence to Ward 1.
