BAXTER — Voters in Minnesota Senate District 6 will have another opportunity to hear directly from a candidate running in the April 29 special election.
A public forum featuring DFL-endorsed Denise Slipy will be 7 p.m. Tuesday, April 22, at the Greater Lakes Association of Realtors building, 15344 Pearl Drive in Baxter, just north of Menards. Doors will open at 6:30 p.m.
Republican Keri Heintzeman, who won the recent primary against seven other candidates, chose not to participate in a debate after taking part in a prior Republican candidate forum. According to a news release from the Brainerd Lakes Chamber of Commerce, Heintzeman said she plans to prioritize face-to-face conversations with voters through door-knocking efforts before the election.
Brainerd Lakes Chamber President Matt Kilian will serve as the forum moderator. The event will be livestreamed on the chamber’s Facebook page.
Organizers include the chamber, Brainerd Dispatch and League of Women Voters with support from the Rosenmeier Center for State & Local Government and the Crosslake, Nisswa and Pequot Lakes chambers.
The special election is Tuesday, April 29. Early and absentee voting begins April 23.
