DFLer Erik Osberg of Wadena will face off against Republican Rep. Michelle Fischbach in November in Minnesota's 7th Congressional District.
Osberg, who leads Otter Tail County's economic development program, received two-thirds of the vote against perennial candidate Steve Carlson in the primary election Tuesday, Aug. 11.
Fischbach ran unopposed after nearly losing her party's endorsement in April.
Fischbach has represented the 7th District — which includes agricultural northwestern Minnesota, part of Hubbard County and Becker and Wadena counties — since unseating Democrat Collin Peterson in 2020. The district has continued to shift to the right politically.
The primary vote totals represent just how much of a challenge Osberg faces. With just Fischbach's name on the Republican side of the ballot, she received nearly 70,000 votes — although voters were likely showing up to weigh in on top-billed statewide races, like governor and U.S. Senate. Only 42,000 ballots were cast in the DFL primary.
