On The River and Green Cheese

When did you start volunteering at the station?

Volunteer/donor Molly MacGregor

Your favorite recent album or artist?

7Horse

Who got you into music?

My older brother- first cassette I stole from him was the Long After Dark album from Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers.

Most memorable concert or festival?

Peter Frampton 5 years ago on his farewell tour in MN

Tell us about your favorite KAXE memory.

Gosh, there are so many. Hosting Green Cheese and hearing our lovely Julie Crabb call in and tell me how great I was doing at hosting the first time; I mean, Julie... freaking...Crabb giving me an on-air high five in her domain when I was so nervous was amazing.
I am also one of the first people to ask about volunteering for Record Store Day in Bemidji. And if I am not working out of state, I hit the Green Cheese Picnic and Riverfest for my end of summer highlights. I look forward to many more memories with KAXE. Thank you for allowing me to volunteer.

Favorite fellow on-air DJ at KAXE?

My ride-or-die Justine Jacobson, and our legendary DJ the DJ.

What hobbies do you have outside of DJing?

The last two years, which has kept me from doing more with KAXE, is helping lead our local animal rescue, Great Tails, and setting up for our shelter building. (Opened this spring!)

What's a musical ick for you?

Lyrics that have absolutely no heart/depth/story...Just a bunch of crappy sentences thrown together in an attempt to make a single.

Prince or Dylan?

Aw, c'mon. There's a time and space for both. Hahaha.

KAXE is turning 50 in 2026! Why should KAXE exist for another 50 years?

Because unlike other stations, KAXE has so much more variety, even within our formula, while keeping a thumb on the pulse of community matters.

Dan was born on the south side of Chicago and remembers dancing to Booker T and the MG's as his 1st musical memory. What followed has been a lifelong adventure of hearing new music and being exposed to the people and communities that produced the artists. Forwards in all directions!
