While the Beltrami County Fair is officially open from Aug. 6-10, 2025, the behind-the-scenes work is well underway for the event, which can take months of planning.

United Way of 1000 Lakes, serving Itasca County, honored Anttila and other finalists at its Community Impact Celebration in May 2025.

Trainings are available for new on-air volunteers on June 3, 2025, at KAXE in Grand Rapids, and June 4, 2025, at KBXE in Bemidji.

Started in 2015, the award has a history of highlighting community members for their leadership and outstanding service in the Itasca County area.

The organization is partnering with Aitkin County Sobriety Court to help participants with transportation to and from treatments and meetings.

Each Monday morning, KAXE brings you "Bright Spot," uplifting stories of Northern Minnesota, to foster a sense of community and connection through storytelling. This week, KAXE volunteer DJ Ironsides from Bemidji talked with Heidi Holtan about his quest on his hand cycle bike.

A century-old headstone was also replaced in Maple Hill Cemetery to properly recognize Cpl. Norman Kenneth Bawks, a WWI soldier killed in action days before the war ended in 1918.

Volunteers and community members who did outstanding work were recognized with awards, and the evening featured the musical talents of Mae Simpson and Erik Koskinen.

United Way of Northeastern Minnesota has a Day of Action in Keewatin on June 14 and United Way of 1000 Lakes will be in Marble on June 21 for its Day of Action. Volunteers and community projects are needed for both events.

Last year, roughly 2,000 church groups, community organizations, business teams, and individuals filled up more than 42,000 bags of trash.
