Which shows do you DJ?
When did you start volunteering at the station?
Three and a half or four years ago
How did you first hear about KAXE?
Randomly in northern Minnesota and heard it on the car radio. I heard the announcement that anyone could volunteer to host a show. I seriously hopped on the website that night and did just that.
Your favorite recent album or artist?
Oh boy …. That’s a tough one! So many, but some new finds like Boy Golden, Chaparelle, Lola Kirke are artists I have recently (past year or so) discovered and listen to all the time now.
Who got you into music?
I grew up in a household where music was played every day. My mom listened to Tom Jones, Sonny & Cher, Bette Midler, while my father listened to old school twang like Eddie Arnold, Johnny Cash, Charley Pride. I was exposed to all sorts of music and loved it all.
Most memorable concert or festival?
The first time I heard Raul Malo of The Mavericks. YEARS ago. I was by myself at an art festival in Santa Fe, New Mexico. He was playing solo.
Tell us about your favorite KAXE memory.
Favorite fellow on-air DJ at KAXE?
Way too many to mention and for all different reasons. I love the variety of personalities and music choices - that’s what makes it so special.
What hobbies do you have outside of DJing?
I draw and paint (but not nearly enough), I am a voracious reader, and I have two cranky old cats, Abracadabra and Hocus Pocus, who hang out with me daily and demand my time. 😂
What's a musical ick for you?
Christmas music (please don’t hate me).
Prince or Dylan?
Dylan
KAXE is turning 50 in 2026! Why should KAXE exist for another 50 years?
Debra's Playlist
In honor of KAXE turning 50, we asked our volunteers to send us a playlist of songs that help tell their musical story.
We grabbed these songs from Debra's latest On the River show. We know you'll enjoy it!
Find Debra's playlist here to play on your preferred streaming platform.
