Events Up North July 6-12: Hibbing Jubilee, Deer River Wild Rice Festival

Events this week include a butterfly field trip in the Sax-Zim Bog, a water ski show in Nevis and a celebration of art and fish houses in New York Mills.

It's summertime and there's no shortage of things to do this week in Northern Minnesota!

Monday, July 6

  • Genealogy presentation - 1 p.m. at Hibbing Public Library
  • Oodles of Noodles & Yankee Doodles - 6 p.m. dinner, followed by First City Singers concert at Bemidji Senior Center

  • Itasca Waters' Practical Water Wisdom webinar - noon, online. This month's topic is septic system regulations with director of Itasca County Environmental Services Katie Benes.
  • Noon Hour Concert - 12:15 p.m. at Calvary Lutheran Church in Park Rapids, featuring mezzo soprano Emily Kjenaas
  • Red Lake Nation Independence Day Celebration & Powwow - 1 p.m. grand entry in Red Lake
  • Trail Towns celebration - 1 p.m. at Tioga Beach near Cohasset. A short presentation on the North Country Trail will be followed by an optional hike.
  • Bugs at the Library - 2 p.m. at Calumet Public Library
  • Nerd Networking - 6-8:30 p.m. at CHAIR in Virginia
  • Coleraine City Band concert - 7 p.m. at Longyear Park in Coleraine. Hot dogs served beginning at 6 p.m.

  • Deer River Wild Rice Festival - 9 a.m.-6:30 p.m. in Deer River. Parade at 1 p.m.
  • Monthly breakfast buffet - 9 a.m.-noon at the Buck Lake Community Center, located 12 miles north of Nashwauk. This month's buffet will celebrate America's 250th birthday.
