VIRGINIA — Most readers love sharing what they've read with other fellow readers.
At the Virginia Public Library, kids have a chance to be a librarian for a week and show off their favorite books.
Crystal Macias, youth services library associate, and rising third-grader and kid librarian B.T. were recent Bright Spot guests on the KAXE Morning Show.
Kid librarians get to create a display of books they like, plus provide answers to a series of questions, like their favorite books and their favorite part of the library. These answers are part of their display.
Macias said there have been 26 kid librarian applications so far, with 11 coming from just one classroom from the library's next-door neighbor, North Star Elementary.
"They get an opportunity to tell us a little bit about themselves ... I think they just really like being part of something," Macias said.
B.T. told us she wanted to be a kid librarian to share her favorite books with everyone. She likes books about sports and ones that have animals.
To become a kid librarian, stop by the library for an application. Macias stressed that all who apply will get their chance, but with so many applicants, it may take a while for your turn. The program is meant for those ages 12 and under, but if older teens are interested, they won't be turned away.
From writing circles to a knitting club to crafts and book clubs, the library strives to provide events for all ages, Macias said. Check out its event calendar for more details or follow its Facebook page to keep up to date on happenings.
