Events Up North May 18-24: 'Hello, Dolly!' auditions in Hibbing, plant sale in Grand Rapids

Events this week include a Norwegian celebration in Bemidji and a unique exercise class in Grand Rapids.

There's always something to do in Northern Minnesota! Here's what's happening this week:

Monday, May 18

  • Syttende Mai celebration - 9-11 a.m. at Bemidji Senior Center. Celebrate Norway's Constitution Day with coffee and homemade treats.

Tuesday, May 19

  • Creative Crafters and Artists Luncheon - noon at Leech Lake Tribal College in Cass Lake
  • Hello, Dolly! auditions - 6 p.m. at Lincoln Elementary School in Hibbing

Wednesday, May 20

  • Warbler Walk - 7 a.m. at the Forest History Center in Grand Rapids (every Wednesday and Saturday in May)
  • Guided bird hike - 8 a.m. at Northland Arboretum in Brainerd. Register.
  • Northern Exposure to Lifelong Learning - 9:30 a.m. at Bagley American Legion. In this final program of the season, David Jones will talk about the history of Mount Rushmore. Doors open at 9 a.m. with light refreshments served.
  • Bingocize - 10-11 a.m. at ElderCircle's space in Central Square Mall in Grand Rapids. This wellness class combines the game of bingo with exercise. Every Wednesday and Friday now through June 19.
  • Mental health webinar - noon, online. Hosted by the Grand Rapids chapter of the National Alliance on Mental Illness. Learn how to find help when you need it.
  • Pints for a Purpose - 5-8 p.m. at Jack Pine Brewery in Baxter. Proceeds benefit WeARE.
  • Hello, Dolly! auditions - 6 p.m. at Lincoln Elementary School in Hibbing
  • Itasca Youth Orchestra concert - 5:30 p.m. at the Reif Center in Grand Rapids

Thursday, May 21

  • Veteran Family Resource Fair - 3-6 p.m. at Minnesota Discovery Center in Chisholm. Benefit seminar at 4 p.m. and presentation on the Minnesota National Guard in Vietnam at 6 p.m.
  • United Way of 1000 Lakes Community Celebration - 4-7 p.m. at Timberlake Lodge in Grand Rapids. Program and awards at 4:30 p.m.
  • League of Women Voters Bemidji Area host conversation with Minnesota Secretary of State Steve Simon - 4:30 p.m. in the council chambers at Bemidji City Hall.
  • Itasca County Master Gardeners Plant Sale - 5-6 p.m. at the North Central Research & Outreach Center in Grand Rapids
  • The Sowing Room's Third Space Thursday Skill Share - 6:30-8 p.m. at the Franklin Arts Center in Brainerd (in the Lil Fish Studio, enter through the south door).

Sunday, May 24

  • Friends of Lake Bemidji State Park pancake breakfast - 8-10 a.m. at Lake Bemidji State Park dining hall. You can help the environment by bringing your own plate and utensils.
