Floral shop North in Bloom was selected for the Fleur de Villes exhibit at Galleria in Edina, where owner Madeline Cook and team created a plaid design.

EDINA — When Grand Rapids florist Madeline Cook saw a chance to bring her work to a bigger audience, she didn't let a technicality stand in her way.

Fleurs de Villes is a company that travels the world, hosting floral couture fashion events. Cook saw that it was accepting applications from Twin Cities area florists for a spring show at the Galleria Edina.

That didn't stop Cook.

"Being a strong Northern Minnesota woman, I'm like, 'You know what? I'm going to apply for it anyways,'" Cook said in a recent Bright Spot conversation on the KAXE Morning Show.

North in Bloom's entry into Fleurs de Villes at Galleria in Edina in 2026.

Cook's flower shop, North in Bloom, was selected to be one of 16 in the "FLORA" show, which is on display at the Galleria through Sunday, April 19.

Cook brought a crew of six from North in Bloom to collaborate on a plaid vision made from a variety of flowers and grasses adorning a mannequin.

"What is more Northern Minnesota than plaid?" Cook said. She explained how it was a challenge to create strong lines with flowers. The Fleurs de Villes CEO warned them it would be hard to pull off, but once she saw it, she told them they nailed it.
