Events Up North Feb. 23-March 1: Bird talks at Sax-Zim Bog, syrup basics in Brainerd

Events this week include an emerging artist showcase in Bemidji and Stage North Theater's production of "Forbidden Broadway" in Brainerd.

Here are some events to check out across Northern Minnesota this week:

Monday, Feb. 23

  • Rosenmeier Forum - 6:30 p.m. in the Chalberg Theater at Central Lakes College in Brainerd. This month's topic is Minnesota's nuclear energy future.

Thursday, Feb. 26

  • Stage North Theater presents Forbidden Broadway - 7 p.m. at Franklin Arts Center in Brainerd. Tickets.

  • Winter Season Mini-BioBlitz - 9 a.m.-2 p.m. at Sax-Zim Bog near Meadowlands
  • Basics of Maple Syrup - 9-11 a.m. at Northland Arboretum in Brainerd. Space is limited. Registration required.
  • Winter Lecture Series - 1 p.m. at the Forest History Center in Grand Rapids. Author Mark Sage will talk about the fur trade in Minnesota.
  • Northland Mutual UFO Network meeting - 2-4:30 p.m. at Grand Rapids VFW
  • Stage North Theater presents Forbidden Broadway - 2 or 7 p.m. at Franklin Arts Center in Brainerd. Tickets.
  • Storytelling for Spirit and Courage - 7 p.m. at Klockow Brewing in Grand Rapids. Hosted by Michael Goldberg, featuring Annie Humphrey, Ehryn JP Summers and more. Open mic to follow.

Sunday, March 1

  • Introduction to Bird Song - 10 a.m.-2 p.m. at Sax Zim Bog near Meadowlands
