It's another busy week in Northern Minnesota. Here are some events to check out:
Monday, Oct. 6
- Brown Bag Author Series - noon at Brainerd Public Library. Stephanie Mirocha will discuss her book Tree Trek: A Daughter's Walk Through Grief.
- Candlelight Vigil - 6 p.m. at Angel of Hope Park in Grand Rapids. Those grieving the loss of a child can gather to remember. Refreshments and music follow at River Grand.
- Rosenmeier Forum: Immigration to Minnesota from Vietnam, Laos and Cambodia - 7 p.m. at the Chalberg Theater at Central Lakes College in Brainerd.
Tuesday, Oct. 7
- Bemidji Adventures in Lifelong Learning - 10 a.m. at the Bemidji Eagles Club. Explore the Caucasus countries of Azerbaijan, Georgia and Armenia with Polly Scotland.
- Protecting Minnesota Community Forum with Minnesota Attorney General Keith Ellison - 7 p.m. in Bemidji. RSVP for location.
Wednesday, Oct. 8
- Northern Exposure to Lifelong Learning - 9:30 to 11 a.m. at Faith Lutheran Church in Bagley. Sam Smith, a firearm business owner and pastor, will address the responsibility that comes with gun ownership.
- Verse Like Water - noon at Chalberg Theater at Central Lakes College in Brainerd. Poet Li-Young Lee will read and give a craft talk.
Thursday, Oct. 9
- Genealogy Assistance - 4 to 5:30 p.m. at Virginia Public Library.
- Opening reception for "Anima Mundi," an exhibit of paintings by Paul LaJeunesse - 5 to 7 p.m. at the Edge Center for the Arts in Bigfork.
- Classic Movie Series - 6:30 p.m. at the Edge Center for the Arts in Bigfork. This month's film is Night of the Living Dead from 1968.
Friday, Oct. 10
- The Occasion fundraiser for Itasca Pride - 5 p.m. or 6 p.m. dinner, followed by dance. Tickets required.
Saturday, Oct. 11
- Pine River Market Square indoor market - 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at The Warehouse in Pine River with live music from local band Everybird
- Our Voices Restored - 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Beaux Arts Ballroom on the Bemidji State University campus. Featuring panel discussions, a keynote speaker, community resources and a meal.
- Family Create Second Saturday - 1 to 3 p.m. at the MacRostie Art Center in Grand Rapids. Free family-oriented art activities for ages 4 and up (those under 12 must be with an adult).
- Lutefisk supper - 4 to 7:30 p.m. (or until they run out!) at Trinity Lutheran Church in Lake George. Also serving Swedish meatballs, lefse, pie and more.
Sunday, Oct. 12
- Buck Lake Improvement Club's "Spooktacular" breakfast buffet - 9 a.m. to noon at the Buck Lake Community Center, located 12 miles north of Nashwauk.
- Heartland Symphony Orchestra presents Opening Nights - 2:30 p.m. at the Gichi-ziibi Center for the Arts in Brainerd.
