We are approaching peak fall color in Northern Minnesota. Where are your favorite places to check out the changing leaves?

Ah, autumn ... when the leaves put on a splendid display.

There are plenty of great places in Northern Minnesota to take in the beauty. Where are your favorite spots?

Here's what we heard

One listener texted, "A sweet spot for fall colors is along Polk County Highway 41, in the vicinity of Union Lake, approximately 4-10 miles SW of Erskine. One year I went to the North Shore for fall colors, and on my drive home along this reach of 41, I was treated to the best colors of the whole trip. Right in my backyard!"

Jerome commented on Facebook that his favorite view is out his living room window, and Dan in northwest Crow Wing County simply said, "Outside."

KAXE Business Manager Penny Holcomb said, "Jingo Lake Road, between Highway 6 and 38, has nice color. There are spots where the trees canopy the road, so when the sun is right, you are in a golden tunnel."

The North Shore, Chippewa National Forest and Itasca State Park also got a few mentions.

Dan Gannon, KAXE's volunteer coordinator, said he and his partner Aili love riding their bikes on Itasca State Park's Wilderness Drive Loop. "We try to catch falling leaves as we pedal on the roller coaster-like road. So fun and gorgeous!"
