What's for Breakfast: Bacon and sourdough bread with plum jam

Every Friday morning, we get to know one of our members on "What's for Breakfast." This week, we talked with Cathy Davies from Grand Rapids.

GRAND RAPIDS — Last week on "What's for Breakfast," we got to speak to Cathy Davies from Grand Rapids.

She had not yet had breakfast as she was busy filling her pill tray, but she decided to listen to the KAXE Morning Show and felt inspired.

Cathy told us her plans for breakfast. She was planning to have a piece of bacon with a slice of sourdough bread, topped with butter and some fresh plum jam from her plum tree. For a beverage, she planned on having some tomato juice.

Cathy told us about some plans for the week. The most important of these was to travel with her mother to her father's funeral. She misses him and the things they did together, such as the gardening projects they started. Cathy and her mother have still been finding joy through other means, such as listening to the Coleraine City Band.

On a brighter note, we also chatted about Cathy's plums. Cathy has two types of plum trees: toka plums and waneta plums. Toka plums are just pollinators, but the waneta plums do produce fruit. They don't produce every year, but when they do, Cathy often uses them for things like jam and sauces. They aren't as big or juicy as store-bought plums, but Cathy says they're good for recipes.

Lastly, Cathy told us a bit why she listens to KAXE. She loves the socialization and the news, and enjoys what it provides to the community.

"I listen to and support KAXE because you guys are what it's all about up here."
