Mikki from Grand Rapids likes to make gazpacho once the tomatoes are ripe.

This week is the season finale of "Ham Radio: Cooking with Amy Thielen," and we're talking about summer in the kitchen. What are your favorite things to make and/or eat during the summertime?

It's time for this season's final episode of Ham Radio: Cooking with Amy Thielen.

This week's theme is "summer in the kitchen." We want to hear about your favorite summertime recipes and go-to treats.

Here's what we heard

Mikki from Grand Rapids sent us some beautiful photos and wrote, "Here a few favorites that I make every year:

  • chicken salad, made with canned chicken (from the store, not homemade), loads of diced fresh veggies, like scallions, carrots, radishes, celery, sugar snap peas, dill, parsley, crispy noodles, served in a large lettuce leaf
  • gazpacho (once the tomatoes are ripe)
  • tomato sandwiches always with salt and pepper, sometimes with cheese
  • pico de gallo!"

Carolyn commented "Watermelon rind pickles."

Kory likes a fresh-picked tomato sandwich with Miracle Whip.

Karen from Grand Rapids said "Big salads, corn on the cob, fresh fruit with ice cream."

Cassie from Grand Rapids enjoys fresh strawberry pie. "Graham cracker pie crust with a sweetened cream cheese base, topped with fresh strawberries in strawberry flavored gelatin. Homemade whipped cream on top!"

Luckily, we still have a lot of summer left to enjoy these and other favorites!

Read our Question of the Week post on our Facebook page for more suggestions.
