Events Up North Oct. 14-20: Indigenous Peoples' Day, Opera in Bemidji, Haunted Trail in Brainerd

Events in Northern Minnesota this week include Indigenous Peoples' Day celebrations in Grand Rapids and Brainerd and the Haunted Trail at the Northland Arboretum.

It's another busy week in Northern Minnesota. Here are some events to check out:

Monday, Oct. 14

  • Verse Like Water visiting poet program - 11 a.m. at the Chalberg Theater at Central Lakes College in Brainerd. Indigenous poets Layli Long-Soldier and Sherwin Bitsui will read.
  • Indigenous Peoples' Day Celebration - 1-5 p.m., Old Central School lawn and Giinawind Creative Space in Grand Rapids. There will be a round dance, artist vendors, art activities and more.
  • Indigenous Peoples' Day Celebration - 4-7 p.m. at Crow Wing County Courthouse in Brainerd. Learn why history and story matter, with a program at 4:30 p.m., featuring the Mille Lacs color guard and a jingle dress presentation. Refreshments will be served.

Tuesday, Oct. 15

  • Autumn Open House - 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., Nameless Coalition for the Homeless' new day center in Bemidji
  • New Iron Ranger gathering - 4:30-6 p.m. at Hibbing Public Library. RSVP and learn more at helloironrange.com

Thursday, Oct. 17

  • Brown Bag History - noon at Beltrami County History Center in Bemidji. Music and conversation with Mike Naylor.
  • Celebrate Science! - 2 p.m. at Brainerd Public Library. A team from the Science Museum of Minnesota offers six hands-on stations geared towards kids in kindergarten through fifth grade.
  • New Iron Ranger gathering - 4:30-6 p.m. at Virginia Public Library. RSVP and learn more at helloironrange.com
  • Haunted Trail - 7-9 p.m. at Northland Arboretum in Brainerd
  • Radium Girls - 7 p.m. at the Chalberg Theater on the Brainerd campus of Central Lakes College

  • Marriage of Figaro - 7:30 p.m. at Bangsberg Fine Arts Complex at Bemidji State University

Saturday, Oct. 19

  • Movie Day for United Way - 10:30 a.m. and 1 p.m., showing IF at Bemidji CEC Theaters. Tickets are $5 and all proceeds benefit the United Way of Bemidji.
  • Radium Girls - 7 p.m. at the Chalberg Theater on the Brainerd campus of Central Lakes College
  • Marriage of Figaro - 7:30 p.m. at Bangsberg Fine Arts Complex at Bemidji State University
