Events Up North Oct. 2-6: Open mic in Bemidji, art walk in Grand Rapids

Larry Yazzie will appear at Central Lakes College in Brainerd Thursday, Oct. 3 at both noon at 7 p.m.

This week in Northern Minnesota there's an electric vehicle demonstration in Bemidji, Native American dance performance in Brainerd and an open house with pizza in Pine River.

Wednesday, Oct. 2

  • Northern Exposure to Lifelong Learning - 9 a.m. at Faith Lutheran Church in Bagley. Bret Byfield will give a talk called, "Experience In, Leaving, and Life After Being in a Cult."
  • Blessing of the Animals - 4:30-5:30 p.m. at the shelter by the beach on Silver Lake in Virginia. Hosted by Congregations Caring for the Earth. Bring your pet (on a leash or in a carrier) or a photo to be blessed. Donations are welcome for Mesabi Humane Society.

Thursday, Oct. 3

  • Happy Dancing Turtle open house - 5-7 p.m. at the campus near Pine River. Rollin' Dough will serve pizzas featuring vegetables grown in Happy Dancing Turtle's garden.
  • Electric vehicle demonstration - 4-6 p.m. at Beltrami Electric Cooperative's garage in Bemidji. View electric vehicles and go for a test drive. There will also be e-bikes, electric lawnmowers and more. A special presentation of an electric school bus is at 5 p.m.
  • Cultural Thursday - noon at Central Lakes College's Chalberg Theater in Brainerd. Larry Yazzie from Native Pride Productions will discuss his work and the influence of Indigenous culture.
  • Dance and music with Native Pride Productions - 7 p.m. at Chalberg Theater at Central Lakes College in Brainerd.
