Every Friday morning, we get to know one of our members on "What's for Breakfast." Recently, we spoke with Red Lake High School cooking teacher Ben Lucca from Bemidji.

RED LAKE — Cooking is an important life skill, and at Red Lake High School, students have the option of taking a cooking class.

Ben Lucca teaches at Red Lake High School and has creatively incorporated local food into the menus. Ben was our guest on "What's for Breakfast" on the KAXE Morning Show recently.

Recipes and menus have to fit into the 52-minute class, which can limit what they cook.

The Red Lake students have options, according to Ben.

"Some kids aren't brave or familiar with where things are or the tools of the kitchen, so they're welcome to do that stuff at home and take pictures on their phone and send them to me and get credit."

Ben's classes are popular. He explains, "it brings communities together, brings families together." Plus it is fun, especially when he plays music during the class.

Ben also thinks it breeds gratitude, creating an awareness where people come to appreciate homemade meals.
