If you're looking for activities for the weekend before Halloween, KAXE/KBXE Producer Andrew Dziengel has six picks for what to check out.

It’s the weekend before Halloween and there is no shortage of activities for everyone. Are you ready to be frightened? Are you looking to get candy? Are you in the mood for a quiet evening walking through the woods? Have no fear. Area Voices has you covered.

Haunted House at Rail River Folk School

If you’re in the mood for a fright, then the Rail River Folk School is the place for you.

Voyageurs Expeditionary School is fundraising for a trip to Florida with a haunted house from 6 to 10 p.m. on both Oct. 27 and 28.

Costumes are encouraged.

The Mighty Trains & Costume Contest

For fans of live music and fans of wearing costumes, this event has both.

The Mighty Trains will be playing 7 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 28 at the Ripple Center in Aitkin.

There will also be a costume contest featuring six different categories, and the Mighty Trains will be the judges.

Food will also be available from Block North Brew Pub.

Lies and True Crimes with Frank Weber

For the fans of the true crime genre the Bemidji Public Library is hosting author and forensic psychologist Frank Weber.

Weber has written numerous books including his latest, “The Haunted House of Hillman.

At the event Weber will talk about the mind of a criminal and demonstrate an actual lie detector test.

The event will be at 10 a.m. on Saturday, Oct. 28 at the Bemidji Public Library and will also be available to watch on Facebook Live.

Lake Bemidji State Park

If you’re looking for a quieter night but want to stay festive, Lake Bemidji State Park has an event you will be interested in.

From 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Saturday, October 28 you can take a hike through the woods on a candle-lit walk along the Paul Bunyan Trail.

There will also be treats, games, and crafts in the visitor center.

Movie Night: Hocus Pocus

How about a night out at the movies? There will be a screening of the Halloween classic “Hocus Pocus” 7:30 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 28 at the Super 8 in Park Rapids.

There will also be free popcorn, soda pop, and treat bags.

If dancing is what you’re craving, then the spooky EDM costume party at Haunted House of DJs could be your thing.

The party begins 9 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 28 at the Rail River Folk School.

Featuring music from The Dub Spectres, ZENATO, and CVI.
