Border News Roundup: Teacher Negotiations, Layoffs & Fishing Opener

M. Helmberger

Border News Roundup with Marshall Helmberger

Friday mornings Timberjay editor and publisher Marshall Helmberger tells us about some of the stories they covered this week. The Timberjay has been following the ongoing contract talks between the St. Louis County School District and its teachers for some time. The teachers have been working without a contract and a possible walk out may be happening if contract negotiations are not reached soon.

Marshall explains what is happening with the layoffs at the Northshore mine in Babbitt and how the community will be effected. About 400 of Northshore’s 580 employees will be on indefinite layoff starting on Monday.

Marshall admits he is not optimistic on the prospect of ice-out in time for the fishing opener. Listen here for more on ice conditions or go to timberjay.com.
