Enbridge Energy Gets 3.3 Million Dollar Fine from the MN DNR for Piercing an Aquifer: A Conversation with Minnesota Reformer Data Reporter Rilyn Eischens

Associated Press

Last week the MN DNR announced they were fining Enbridge Energy 3.3 million dollars for piercing a groundwater aquifer during construction of it's Line 3 oil pipeline in Clearbrook, MN. Rilyn Eischens is the data reporter at the Minnesota Reformer and she covered the story and helped us understand what's going on.

MN DNR Commissioner Sarah Strommen said "Enbridge's actions are clear violations of state law and also of public trust. This never should have happened, and we are holding the company fully accountable."

Juli Kelner is the spokesperson for Enbridge and she said that the company is currently reviewing the DNR documents. "We share a strong desire to protect Minnesota waters and the environment and we are committed to restoration. We will continue to work closely with the agency on the resolution of this matter."
