PBS North/Native Report Senior Producer Ramona Marozas was back with us today to preview the new season of Native Report that debuts tonight at 7:30pm on WDSE/WRPT.
Season 17 of Native Report tackles topics of modern times with a traditional twist by unearthing modern impacts of past policy. We speak with family members of loved ones who attended boarding schools to discuss inter-generational trauma. We speak with Native members of the Two Spirit community as well as talk with multi-racial Native peoples about their identities. We explore efforts to preserve natural resources as well as illuminate economic endeavors utilizing natural resources which hold true to Native beliefs. We tackle Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women (MMIW) awareness efforts and language preservation...We hear from Native artists including one specializing in applique of bright colors and Ojibwe floral designs.
The common theme of hearing from our elders continues in season 17 as we elevate words of wisdom to be passed onto future generations. And, Health Matters returns, and in one of those segments this season we follow an Ojibwe family and learn about their roots in wild ricing.
