Her new novel is called In the Country of Others and has her reaching back into her French and Moroccan family history to tell the story of Mathilde, a young French bride who settles in a harsh and isolated corner of Morocco with her new husband Amin. Both Mathilde and Amin face great obstacles; Mathilde struggles to understand the local customs and rules while her spirited and headstrong ways clash against the country’s chauvinism, Amin must come to terms with being a Moroccan man married to a French woman as tensions build between Moroccans and the French colonists.
