School Shootings: A Survivor's Insight

Thomas X

As a nation, we've grieved together in the wake of the most recent school shooting rampage at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, Florida.   As a news source, Northern Community Radio has delivered NPR reporting of the aftermath to our listeners every day since.  In northern Minnesota, events such as these hit home in a particularly unsettling way.  It happened here, too.   Monday, March 21, 2005 a troubled teen entered Red Lake High School with a darkness in his heart, permanently altering the lives of his classmates and community.  Thomas Barret was there.  Since that day,  Barrett, who raps under the name  Thomas X, has been on a journey of self discovery and personal healing.   We're grateful he took time the time to talk on our morning show about what it's like to be in that kind of tragic situation, how it's affected his life and what he thinks as these events continue to occur in our country.  Click on the link to hear his thoughts.
