Blues, Americana, psychedelic jazz fusion, bluegrass and more. Find it around Northern Minnesota and here, on The Setlist.
First up, award-winning blues guitarist PK Mayo is playing at the Ore House in Gilbert, Thursday at 6 p.m. Paul Mayasich was born in Eveleth and has released numerous albums as PK Mayo. The Iron Range musician is also a member of the Minnesota Blues Hall of Fame. His live repertoire includes original tunes, mixing in folk, blues, rock and country covers.
On Friday, Christopher David Hanson is playing solo at Brigid’s Irish Pub in Bemidji, 7:30 p.m. A roots rock and Americana singer-songwriter, Hanson’s most recent album was Whippoorwill in 2022, and he recently formed a new group called Bewilderness, with his son Cameron on drums.
On to Saturday, Tattletale, Forge North, and Emily & Mary LaPlant are playing a benefit show for Save the Boundary Waters at Rapids Brewing in Grand Rapids at 6 p.m. Headliner and host, Tattletale, is a psychedelic jazz fusion group that draws from Ethiopian jazz and other global funk sounds. Forge North is an Americana jam band from Longville, led by soulful songwriter Charley Wagner. Mary & Emily LaPlant are a talented mother-daughter bluegrass and folk duo from Grand Rapids.
And finally, a quick shout-out to Wussows One Week Live, taking place all next week, Oct. 13-18, in Duluth. Multiple bands perform each night, and the recordings will later be released as an album. The series has been the premier document of Northeastern Minnesota music for more than 20 years.
