This weekend, The Setlist features a country and folk music legend alongside local bands from Northern Minnesota.

The Mississippi Headwaters Music Fest is this weekend in Itasca Township, north of Itasca State Park. Across Friday and Saturday the lineup includes Forge North, Kitchi Boogie, the Lydia Rose Band and many more alongside vendors and food trucks. Music begins Friday at 3 p.m. and Saturday at 12:30 p.m. The official address is 27579 180th St. Itasca Township.

Friday night in Bemidji, Sam Miltich & The Clearwater Hot Club are heading to Brigid's at 6 p.m. Playing the Hot Club tunes of Django Reinhardt alongside straight-ahead jazz and Balkan folk music, the group mix original compositions with jazz and folk standards.

On Saturday, country and folk music icon Steve Earle is coming to Northern Minnesota and the Northern Lights Casino in Walker. Earle is a three-time Grammy winner and seven-time nominee, known for songs like "Copperhead Road," "Guitar Town," "Galway Girl" and many more. His career began in the mid-'70s and connects songwriting legends like Townes Van Zandt and Guy Clark to the music of today. The show begins at 6 p.m. with young country singer-songwriter Calder Allen.

Finally, MorningBird are playing in Grand Rapids at Rapids Brewing Co., Saturday at 6 p.m. Now led by multi-instrumentalists Jill Burkes and Josh Palmi, the band is rounded out by a rhythm section of Shane Kingsland and Jim Pietila.

Malachy started his radio career in 2017 at a college radio station, where he played weird music in the middle of the night to possibly no one. On a good night maybe his parents were listening. Nonetheless, he was hooked on public radio and is still doing it today.

He joined Northern Community Radio in 2022, where he gets to share his passion for local music as Producer of Minnesota Mixtape, an all Minnesota music show airing Fridays at 10 a.m. and Saturdays at 3 p.m. You can also find him hosting Headwaters and curating The Setlist.
