KAXE's weekly list of concerts near you features Stella Standingbear, Annie Humphrey, Thomas X, GB Leighton and The Jorgensons, the Virginia Sisters, Between Howls and more.

The Setlist this week has the 2nd Annual KOJB hosted Anishinaabe Music & Arts Festival, the 5th Annual Iron Range Juneteenth celebration, Long Lake Conservation's Nature Rocks concert, and a pair of duos in Bemidji and Grand Rapids.

The 2nd Annual Anishinaabe Music & Arts Festival is Thursday at the Northern Lights Casino in Walker. Hosted by Leech Lake's KOJB radio, the event runs throughout the day with music beginning around 9:30 a.m. The festival features local musicians like Annie Humphrey, Thomas X and Red Fever, and is headlined by Stella Standingbear, an award winning Lakota pop, R&B and hip-hop artist.

In Chisholm, there will be live music at the 5th Annual Iron Range Juneteenth celebration Thursday at the Minnesota Discovery Center. Hosted by VEMA - Voices for Ethnic and Multicultural Awareness, the event starts at 11 a.m. and will feature Eli Little & the Easy Liv'n Blues Band at 1 p.m. and DJ Manny Duke throughout.

On Friday, the Nature Rocks - Concert for Conservation returns to downtown Aitkin with GB Leighton and The Jorgensons. The event raises funds for kids to attend camps at the Long Lake Conservation Center in Palisade. GB Leighton is a long running country rock band led by vocalist Brian Leighton, and the Jorgensons are a blues-inspired Americana duo who will be bringing a full band to Aitkin. Music begins at 6 p.m.

The Virginia Sisters are an old-timey twin sister duo coming to Bemidji, Saturday at the Loft Event Center. The pair play vintage jazz, blues, country and more, with a variety of instruments like clarinet, banjo, pennywhistle and upright bass. Music is at 7 p.m.

Events this week include a kids fishing tourney and Loop the Lake Festival in Bemidji, a Bells and More concert in Cohasset, Spring Bike Fling in Walker and Itasca Pride Fest in Grand Rapids.

In Grand Rapids, Between Howls are returning to Rapids Brewing Co. on Sunday at 6 p.m. The Americana duo recently played the KAXE side stage at Festival Rialto, and were a fan favorite that day. Ren and Nick Howl are both talented singers and instrumentalists, showcased on their debut album, Cabin Fever.

The weekly live music spotlight is made possible by the citizens of Minnesota through the Arts & Cultural Heritage Fund.

Malachy started his radio career in 2017 at a college radio station, where he played weird music in the middle of the night to possibly no one. On a good night maybe his parents were listening. Nonetheless, he was hooked on public radio and is still doing it today.

He joined Northern Community Radio in 2022, where he gets to share his passion for local music as Producer of Minnesota Mixtape, an all Minnesota music show airing Fridays at 10 a.m. and Saturdays at 3 p.m. You can also find him hosting Headwaters and curating The Setlist.
