Live music taking place Feb. 14-15, 2025 in Northern Minnesota.

KAXE's weekly list of concerts near you features The Jason Waldron Band, Skarlett Woods, Chris Holm and The Lydia Rose Band.

There's no better way to battle the bitter cold of deep winter than crowding together with your fellow live music lovers and supporting our local music scene. Here are our suggested concerts to check out this weekend.

Before the regular shows in Northern Minnesota, I want to mention the Big Turn Music Fest in Red Wing. A two day city wide festival, it features numerous Minnesota bands that you hear on KAXE. Alongside headliners Dessa, Jeremy Messersmith and Charlie Parr, many artists from our neck of the woods are on the lineup like Joe Rainey, Chris Holm, Brothers Burn Mountain and Steve Solkela. Music is all day Friday and Saturday.

The Jason Waldron Band are a classic country and barroom rock band from Effie. They are playing two shows at the Eagles in Grand Rapids, 8:30 p.m. on Friday and Saturday.

On Saturday, singer-songwriter Skarlett Woods will be at Bemidji Brewing at 6 p.m. She draws from folk, jazz, and rock, and a highlight of her shows is her 7-string jazz guitar playing.

At the same time, Chris Holm will be in Grand Rapids at Rapids Brewing. He is a one-man country blues band inspired by bluesmen of old like Charley Patton. His solo shows feature fingerstyle guitar, harmonica, and stomping. 6 p.m.

In Park Rapids, The Lydia Rose Band will be at the Armory Arts & Events Center at 7 p.m. Saturday. They are a bluesy rock band led by the soulful vocals and heartfelt songwriting of Rose.

Malachy started his radio career in 2017 at a college radio station, where he played weird music in the middle of the night to possibly no one. On a good night maybe his parents were listening. Nonetheless, he was hooked on public radio and is still doing it today.

He joined Northern Community Radio in 2022, where he gets to share his passion for local music as Producer of Minnesota Mixtape, an all Minnesota music show airing Fridays at 10 a.m. and Saturdays at 3 p.m. You can also find him hosting Headwaters and curating The Setlist.
