Giant's Ridge in Biwabik has a Winter Music Series, Saturdays at 2 p.m. at the Burnt Onion Kitchen & Brews. This week's performer is FINICK, the creative project of Minneapolis singer-songwriter Josie Hasnick. She recently released a new single "Yes I Do," showcasing her poetic lyrics and indie-folk sound. There's a full album on the way at the end of March.

Events this week include Back to Hack in Hackensack, an artist reception in Bemidji, the Buhl Winter Frolic and Take a Kid Ice Fishing weekend.

Folk group MorningBird is playing at Smoke on the Water in Coleraine, Saturday at 5 p.m. Having recently returned to their duo form with Jill Burkes on violin and Rob Wheeler on guitar, MorningBird play both original and traditional folk tunes.

At 7 p.m., guitarist and singer Daniel Nathan will be at Chase on the Lake in Walker. A one-man-band who uses a looping pedal and harmonica to create funky songs from scratch, Nathan also performs with groups Funky Chemist and Tequila Express.

The weekly live music spotlight is made possible by the citizens of Minnesota through the Arts & Cultural Heritage Fund.

Malachy started his radio career in 2017 at a college radio station, where he played weird music in the middle of the night to possibly no one. On a good night maybe his parents were listening. Nonetheless, he was hooked on public radio and is still doing it today.

He joined Northern Community Radio in 2022, where he gets to share his passion for local music as Producer of Minnesota Mixtape, an all Minnesota music show airing Fridays at 10 a.m. and Saturdays at 3 p.m. You can also find him hosting Headwaters and curating The Setlist.
