This week's Setlist has everything from a traveling arts collective to a new Grand Rapids dance band inspired by Ethiopian jazz, and we'll also look to early next week for an acclaimed indie singer visiting Duluth.
Fire in the Village is a new arts collective led by Annie Humphrey, David Huckfelt and Shanai Matteson. They are embarking on a Fall Tour with a goal of using art to inspire connections throughout Northern Minnesota. Each of their events will feature music, printmaking, fashion, storytelling and more. This weekend they will be in Grand Rapids on Friday, 8 p.m. at Rapids Brewing, and in Bemidji on Saturday, 7 p.m. at the Chief Theater.
In Nisswa, folk singer and guitarist Nathan Griner will be at Roundhouse Brewery this Saturday at 6 p.m. Griner has released five albums and plays a mix of folk, bluegrass and blues. His latest The Road arrived in 2023.
Back in Grand Rapids, Time Warp will be at Klockow Brewing on Saturday at 8 p.m. A psychedelic groove band inspired by Ethiopian jazz, the group features Grand Rapids musicians from a variety of musical backgrounds. The concert will precede an interactive showing of the cult classic film Rocky Horror Picture Show.
Pedro the Lion is the long-running indie rock project of David Bazan, formed in 1995 in Seattle. Bazan has won praise for his deeply personal songwriting inspired by his Christian upbringing, with his latest album Santa Cruz adding synths and drum machines. He is playing a solo show as Pedro the Lion, Monday in Duluth at Duluth Cider, 8 p.m.
