Concerts happening August 1-3, 2024 in Northern Minnesota.

KAXE's weekly list of concerts in northern Minnesota features Two Hearted Trio with April Mae, Third Coast Chamber Collective, Sam Miltich, Greg Kazcor, the Rockbee Music Festival, and The Brothers Burn Mountain.

The Setlist this week features concerts to help you welcome in the month of August. In Hibbing, the Range comes alive with their preeminent music festival, Rockbee, hosted by the Iron Range Music Association. Grand Rapids has multiple concerts as part of Tall Timber Days and First Friday Art Walk, and a Bemidji folk-blues-jazz quartet plays in Turtle River.

From Bemidji, Brainerd and Grand Rapids to Hackensack and Hibbing, small towns across Northern Minnesota are chock-full of events.

Two Hearted Trio is John Henningsgaard, Lance Heddan, and Shane Kingsland, and this Thursday they'll be joined by vocalist April Aylesworth at the TRC Bar & Grill in Turtle River. The group play a mix of folk, blues, and jazz, with music starting Thursday at 6 p.m.

The First Friday Art Walk includes three concerts this week in Grand Rapids. At 5 p.m., classical quartet Third Coast Chamber Collective will perform on the 2nd floor of the Old Central School. At 6 p.m., Sam Miltich and the Clearwater Hot Club are at Rapids Brewing Co. and Greg Kazcor is at Unwined Up North.

The Rockbee Music Festival is this weekend with a great lineup of bands from the Range and Northeastern Minnesota. Taking place at Mesaba Co-op Park near Hibbing, the two day festival includes on-site camping with music starting on Friday and Saturday at 6 p.m. The lineup includes Hobo Revival, MorningBird, Rich Mattson & The North Stars and many more with Alan Sparhawk's gritty blues revival band Black-Eyed Snakes closing the fest out Saturday night.

The weekly live music spotlight is made possible by the citizens of Minnesota through the Arts & Cultural Heritage Fund.

Malachy started his radio career in 2017 at a college radio station, where he played weird music in the middle of the night to possibly no one. On a good night maybe his parents were listening. Nonetheless, he was hooked on public radio and is still doing it today.

He joined Northern Community Radio in 2022, where he gets to share his passion for local music as Producer of Minnesota Mixtape, an all Minnesota music show airing Fridays at 10 a.m. and Saturdays at 3 p.m. You can also find him hosting Headwaters and curating The Setlist.
